The Trauma Healing Institute (THI) is a global organization that equips non-governmental organizations (NGOs), churches, educational institutions, community leaders, and families to respond to the emotional and spiritual wounds caused by trauma through a proven, group-based model grounded in biblical principles and informed by trusted mental health best practices.
THI provides curriculum, training, and facilitator support that is adaptable across cultures and languages, serving individuals and communities impacted by war, disaster, abuse, and other deep sufferings.
At the heart of its approach is the Healing the Wounds of Trauma curriculum, which helps participants process grief, practice forgiveness, and rebuild trust through guided sessions offered in small groups. Explore the six core healing group sessions below.
What is a wound of the heart? A wound of the heart is the unseen pain caused by life’s deepest hurts, such as betrayal, loss, abuse, or abandonment. These wounds affect how we see ourselves, others. Recognizing these wounds is the first step toward healing, as we begin to name our pain and invite healing into it.
What can help our heart wounds heal? Healing begins when we feel truly heard, loved, and safe. Compassionate presence, honest expression, and spiritual support help soften the pain and open space for restoration. Genuine love, experienced through community and reflection, is often the balm our hearts need to begin mending.
What happens when someone is grieving? Grief is a natural and personal response to loss. It often shows up as sadness, anger, numbness, or confusion. Everyone grieves differently, and healing takes time, patience, and understanding. By listening without judgment and offering consistent support, we help others move through grief toward hope.
If God loves us, why do we suffer? Suffering is a part of our human experience, and it often raises deep questions about God's presence and love. While we may not always understand the "why," we can learn to trust that God walks with us through every valley. This lesson explores how faith can sustain us even when life hurts.
How can we forgive others? Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting or excusing what happened, it means choosing to release the hold that pain has over us. Forgiving is often a journey, not a one-time event, and it may require help to begin. This lesson offers a path toward freedom by letting go of bitterness and embracing grace.
How can we bring our pain to the Cross? Jesus invites us to bring our burdens, heartbreak, and trauma to Him. At the cross, we find not only forgiveness but also healing because God knows our suffering firsthand. This lesson is about surrendering pain and trusting God to bring beauty from our brokenness.
