When Hope Makes Plans

There may come a time when you notice yourself looking forward to something again. At first, it may surprise you because grief taught you to take life one day at a time. Healing slowly taught you to receive joy when it came. And now, almost quietly, hope begins doing something new.

It starts making plans.

A trip. A new routine. A celebration. A goal you had set aside. A future you had stopped imagining.

Looking ahead can feel tender after loss because planning again means admitting that life is continuing. And sometimes that can feel complicated.

We may wonder whether moving forward means we are leaving something behind, but hope does not ask us to forget what happened. It simply gives us permission to believe that something meaningful may still be ahead.

There is room to honor what was and still become curious about what could be. There is room to remember and anticipate. There is room to carry grief while making plans for a life that is still unfolding.

Healing does not always announce itself in dramatic ways. Sometimes it looks like buying the ticket. Making the reservation. Saying yes. Writing the date on the calendar. Allowing yourself to imagine that joy may meet you there.

Grace has been present in every part of the journey.

Perhaps living beyond the moment eventually means more than continuing. Maybe it means allowing hope to become expectation again. Not because we know exactly what the future holds, but because we trust that grace will meet us there too.

What might open up if hope reminded you there is still something worth living for?
